I was fortunate to be raised in a truly intergenerational environment, learning about science, math, language, and life not only with my parents but also with my grandparents and other extended family. Growing up next door to my very resourceful grandparents was an incredible part of my formative years, and without that experience, I would likely be a much less creative and critical problem solver.
Now, as an aunt, I have the opportunity to be a part of the extended family that is involved in the development of my nieces and nephew. It is so exciting to see the experiences that I had as a child being repeated and expanded within my family as everyone encourages the kids to wonder, analyze, discover, and learn every day.
As an educator, I recognize that I have experienced a family that is not the mainstream opportunity in our society. I do my work--at NCFL and in the broader community--and am raising money to help this type of learning become a part of the experience for every child.
Please give what you can to further the opportunities for families to understand how to learn everywhere, every way, and every day!
