Jeshua Glascock and Lanell Windham got me into running last year. At that time, I never envisioned myself participating in a half-marathon. A year later, I'm not only registered for the Missoula Half-Marathon, but actually looking forward to it.
A year is a long time. A lot can happen in a year. A lot did happen to Lanell. During this past year, she was diagnosed and treated for stage 3 breast cancer. She's done with all treatments, is now cancer-free and has returned her focus to running.
The Missoula Half-Marathon has long been one of Lanell's favorite running events. When she participates, she does it to raise money for Montana Youth Homes. Before she was even finished with radiation therapy, Lanell registered for this event. Jesh and I followed suit as a show of support to Lanell, and to give our training focus.
For the three of us, the Missoula Half-Marathon is our opportunity to LEAVE CANCER BEHIND. As an added benefit, we wish to raise money for this great non-profit organization. Montana Youth Homes gives troubled kids a safe place to find stability. The organization also gives kids tools to move forward in their lives, leaving the chaos in the past.
All three of us are so grateful for the support offered to Youth Homes. We are also incredibly grateful to those who personally support our efforts to run beyond cancer. ~ Sylvia Smith.
