Leeann (Loni) & Family - Kick Breast Cancer's Butt Fund!
Organized by: Kristina Winterfeldt
Humbling. Our Aunt, Loni Verhaalen's breast cancer diagnosis has been a lot of things for her and her family - terrifying, painful, hopeful, fearful and . . . humbling. Loni is a mother of four who is battling breast cancer. After a routine scan, a diagnositic scan, many pokes, prods, consults and TWO separate lumpectomy surgeries - she received the devastating news that chemotherapy is unavoidable and necessary to reduce the rate of reoccurence. How ironic that her first treatment will come at the beginning of breast cancer awareness month - October - and remain ongoing through the end of the year before she embarks on the next journey - radiation. The reason this is especially challenging for her family is that Loni works as a dental hygienist which requires direct contact with her patients on a daily basis, something that is not advised while her immune system will be compromised by the chemo. So - if kicking cancer's butt isn't enough, now they have the added financial stress that comes with being unable to work, even if for a short period of time. Loni and her family rely on her income to supplement her husband's to make ends meet. We can't take the chemo for Loni and it is unlikely that we will be able to do much to minimize the many side effects that comes as part of this process - but some of us can help ease the financial burden so that their family can focus on getting well. Our target amount will not even begin to touch the accumulating medical bills , but rather, it is intended to replace the lost income since her diagnosis through the end of her chemotherapy treatments. Should you feel a tug on your heart to offer support, we would be . . . grateful, thankful, hopeful AND HUMBLED. Your prayers and blessings are appreciated!
