Legal Fees: Survivor/Asylum Seeker
Organized by: BETHandJUSTIN MCCABE
Dear Family & Friends,
We're writing on behalf of one of our dear friends. While some of you are already aware of this situation, others are hearing about it for the first time. Due to the extreme sensitivity of the situation, we cannot disclose many details in a public forum.
We've created this page to help raise money to pay the legal fees for our friend as she seeks asylum here in the United States with her two young children. She is a survivor of a brutal gender violence attack and cannot return to her home country for fear of her life and the safety of her children.
Once the campaign ends, the money we raise will be given directly to our friend so that she can use it to pay her attorney as well as any required application fees for her and her children. She's found a dedicated attorney that specializes in immigration law. Due to the complex nature of her situation, this attorney is a great fit.
We've come to know her and her children over this past year. They are currently living in Pittsburgh and we are in frequent contact with them. She is one of the most resilient and inspiring people we've ever met. She's turned a horrific event into an opportunity to do incredible work to help other survivors of gender violence.
Unfortunately, this vague description hardly does the situation justice. If you would like to inquire more, we would be happy to share in a private conversation. We will share photos and story updates once the application process is complete. Hopefully with good news that asylum has been granted!
Time is limited for her and her children to submit their asylum application. Funding struggles have prevented them from taking action. If they are unable to submit their asylum application, they will be forced to return home- a scenario that will likely have devastating consequences. We are hoping to secure the required funding by October 15, 2016.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration! No donation is too small- every bit will help!
