Why run for TEAM LAS?
The Legal Aid Society fights every day to ensure no New Yorker is denied access to justice because of poverty.
Unfortunately there is no right to counsel in civil legal matters—including for Sandy-related legal problems with housing and other essential services. However, through the Society’s efforts, and with the help of private funding and support from leading law firms and corporations, during this past year, the Society has provided civil legal aid in individual legal matters that benefited more than 119,000 adults and children in New York City living at or below the poverty line, in addition to all two million low-income New Yorkers in all five boroughs who benefit from our systemic law reform work.
Your participation and support raises awareness and vital funds for the Society’s Civil Practice and helps more New Yorkers on the brutal edge of need.
