THE STORY:

I am delighted to be able to dance in “Dancing with the Survivors” presented by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio on September 29, 2016 from 6:30 to 9:00pm at Monaco’s Place & Catering.  This program will feature lots of fun and dance, including breast cancer survivors dancing with instructors.  It is a joy to share in this experience, especially as I celebrate feeling well and completing all of my cancer treatments as of this past June.  All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will go to the “Pink Fund,” a wonderful group that provides financial assistance for expenses like transportation and lost wages, to breast cancer patients currently undergoing treatment.

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001.  I went through a lumpectomy and radiation but as soon as I was finished, I slammed the door on cancer, not wanting to ever look back.  Fourteen years later, in August 2015, breast cancer appeared again, resulting in a mastectomy, chemotherapy and 28 radiation treatments.  This time, my experience has been very different.  Shortly after my diagnosis, our senior pastor spoke of “How to deal with life’s trials and tribulations,” pointing out that God uses these experiences to teach us how to trust in Him and that He gives us comfort and with that, we will be able to in turn comfort others.  I had so much wonderful support from family and friends including many who were survivors. They were able to provide amazing insights and help.  I’ve learned we must look for the good, the purpose and the opportunity in every tough experience.  I want to be able to help others with breast cancer in any way I can.  I am very excited to be able to help raise money for the Pink Fund.

In my work as an attorney dealing primarily with estate planning, I often must coax clients to think about the future, to plan for their families when they are gone.  No one wants to talk about old age, disability or death.  But a cancer patient can be bombarded with these issues and so many more. Financial concerns can add such a burden.  I urge you to consider attending “Dancing with the Survivors” or making a donation.  Let’s help relieve the pressure of financial worries from current patients so they can focus on getting well.
