THE STORY:

Michelle Rosa wrote -

It is with great excitement that we announce Mateo has the privilege of joining Clarke Schools for the deaf, hard of hearing and speech impaired. At four months old, Mateo was diagnosed with a condition called Auditory Neutopathy. At that time, we were told he was practically deaf and may never hear as his test results showed he had no response to sound or transmittance of sound. Over time he has proven that he in fact is capable of hearing, although with some difficulty and the assistance hearing aides, and he makes amazing efforts repeat what he hears. He frequently sounds like he is under water when he speaks and many times his words can not be decifered, but he has the desire to communicate and he shows great potential. Clarke Schools recently opened an Orlando campus in January of this year. The schools focus is to teach our children how to effectively use their technology (hearing aides and/or choclear implants) to listen to sounds and learn to communicate properly preparing them to join the mainstream population once they go to kindergarten and be successful. All of the attending children have some form of mild to severe hearing loss or may have been born deaf. Thankfully with the use of technology the ability to hear has been made possible for these children and thousands of other individuals with similar disabilities. The eight families that are currently associated with the Orlando/winter Park campus are working together to keep the program running successfully for the benefit of our children and their future. Our school is in need of $8000 by June 30th. Please join us in our efforts by donating any amount you possibly can. REMEMBER EVERY CENT COUNTS! Thank you for your time and consideration!
