BENEFITING: Lending Hearts
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
Lending Hearts is the only nonprofit of its kind in the Pittsburgh region that facilitates peer support, through the use of educational and recreational activities and programs, to children and teens fighting cancer and in remission from cancer.
Every family’s story is different. It is never one that is planned, but so many of the stories follow a similar path. It is one that includes days of missed school, losing touch with friends and missing out on field trips. They’re trying to adjust to a new normal. One that includes hospital visits, hair loss and stresses in the home. It is hard enough to be a kid in today’s world. Nobody should have to experience cancer on top of it all. And cancer shouldn’t be a reason to lose friends and miss out on experiences. Thanks to all of the medical advances, there is a lot of life to keep living. Lending Hearts is an organization that kids and teens with cancer can all their own. An organization that allows them to get together on a regular basis outside of the hospital. An organization that allows them to participate, learn and have memorable experiences at the many amazing facilities we have around this region. An organization that keeps the focus on living, finding friendship, comfort and fun with friends and family and building a positive network with other people going through similar experiences. And last but not least, an organization that provides all of that to them for free.
When you support Janelle and her half marathon run, you are supporting the youth of Lending Hearts and their families as well as raising awareness of childhood cancer in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area.
