BENEFITING: LUPUS FOUNDATION OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
EVENT: Mascot Contest 2017
EVENT DATE: Jun 11, 2017
One of the reasons the Mascot contest was started was because dogs too get lupus. Leo is a four-legged lupus warrior. From Leo's human family:
Leo is a blessing to our family! We brought Leo home when he was 7 weeks old and we celebrated his 4th birthday on March 27th. He’s the love of our lives and from day one he has been a member of our family! He loves people, especially kids because they run around and play with him. We often laugh because our pup acts like he’s a five-year-old boy stuck in a dog’s body! He’s loving, playful, affectionate, and very intelligent. We get many compliments on his temperament and how friendly he is. He’s a lover! We are so grateful that he chose us as his human parents. Leo has many years of training under his belt! Currently, we are part of a German shepherd club that organizes so many amazing outings and socials for our fur-babies and their families. He’s just a beautiful soul - our pride and joy!
Last month Leo was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus and it completely broke our hearts. We are still trying to figure out the next steps in his treatment without putting him on long-term steroids. With Leo being the mascot for the Drumbeat 5K, he will also raise awareness to Lupus in K9’s. He attracts so many people towards him even those that are afraid of dogs and puts them to ease!
