BENEFITING: LEON BAND BOOSTERS CORPORATION
The Leon High School Marching Redcoats Band were selected by representatives of Queen Elizabeth II to participate in the January 1, 2014 London New Year's Day Parade and Festival. This trip will involve both educational and musical opportunities for our students. In addition to marching in the New Year's Day Parade, the students will tour historic and cultural sites in and around London, as well as perform in Cadogan Hall, home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Each student has been working hard to raise the approximately $3,000 needed to cover their flight, hotel and meals. However, we have 8 students with limited family resources, who are having difficulty raising enough money to fund their trip. The Band Boosters recognize this as a potential life-changing experience for the students, and hopes to provide scholarship assistance for those struggling to attend.
Founded in 1871, Leon High School is Florida's oldest continuously accredited high school. This public school is located in the heart of Tallahassee, and mirrors the diverse population of the district's residents. Because of its outstanding academic and performing arts reputation, many students outside of the school's zone seek to attend the school. All students who audition for band are accepted. Through hard work, self-discipline, and the exceptional gifts of faculty, this performing arts program transforms a rough-cut group of student musicians into a musical gem garnering uninterrupted superior ratings for over 60 years. The Band program provides music education to approximately 150 students, the majority of whom will be participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Help us send these deserving students abroad, for a chance to represent our United States to a global audience of tens of millions!
