BENEFITING: Mayaworks, Inc.
I am excited to be celebrating my Bar Mitzvah at the end of February. An important part of this is my mitzvah (community) project, and I have an idea that is very near and dear to my heart. As a child of Guatemala and a descendant of the Mayan community, I am very interested in learning about and helping my people. I also love to skateboard and have found a creative way to blend these two interests together. MayaWorks is a US-based non-profit organization that empowers indigenous women of Guatemala to achieve economic security by providing markets for their handcrafted products, access to microcredit loans and expanded educational opportunities. For my mitzvah project, I am embarking on a skateboard-a-thon to aid MayaWorks. Every day for 25 days (weather permitting), I am skateboarding 1 mile to and from school to raise money. I am trying to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause, and would love to get many sponsors to help out. A little support will go a long way. For example, a commitment of $1 per mile will yield a $25 contribution to MayaWorks. Thank you very much in advance for sponsoring me.
