Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!
We are making a final push to add another scholarship student by the end of this year. We currently have two students and would like to add a third when the January term starts. We receive scholarship applications on a weekly basis and have a queue of over 30 qualified students that could use this opportunity. Each scholarship costs $6,000/year which includes accommodation, food, medical insurance, university fees and tuition, transport to and from school, and other necessities. Each student will return to the village upon graduation for one year of service work.
South Sudan needs leaders. South Sudan needs female leaders and advocates where women's rights are few and "girls are twice as likely to die in child birth or pregnancy than make it into secondary school." We would like to add a female student as our next recipient.
If you are unsure as to how much of a difference university education is making, we ask you to read our students' monthly blogs. Many South Sudanese officials are not educated past primary school (in a country where leaders are literally developing their new nation as we speak). Kou and Ajak's education is providing them tools to become leaders. Our students have a real opportunity to shape their new nation.
We sent this email to all the friends of the LEP this Holiday Season. If each of you is able to give a minimum of $20, we will reach our goal and sponsor a new student.
With love this Holiday Season,
Your Friends at the Liliir Education Project
