NEXT SATURDAY - We are running the LARGEST FOOD DRIVE EVER on Manhattan’s Lower East Side!
This school-year we have brought together over 125 - 7th Graders and 8th Graders from The Cornelia Connelly Center & The University Neighborhood Middle School, 6 local grocery stores, City Harvest, Two Boots Pizza, the Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union, The Council for Economic Education & 21 volunteers for our WORK FOR GOOD. SAVE FOR GREATNESS Program!
Participating Students Will:
LEARN how to budget, earn & save the week leading up to the food drive; how to calculate the total weight & value of the food collected; and how to convert ounces to pounds.
WORK for 5 hours collecting food from the local grocery stores their families frequent & EARN $50 each ($10 / hour) in credit from & to that grocery store.
SAVE by establishing their very own educational savings account.
Local businesses and community members match the student's financial education with a $50 deposit-only educational savings account!
