We are running the LARGEST FOOD DRIVE EVER on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
We are bringing together 70 - 7th Graders from The Cornelia Connelly Center & The University Neighborhood Middle School, 7 local grocery stores, City Harvest, Two Boots Pizza, the Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union, & 21 volunteers for a full day of working our fourth community credit cycle.
Participating Students Will:
LEARN how to budget, earn & save the week leading up to the food drive; how to calculate the total weight & value of the food collected; and how to convert ounces to pounds.
WORK for 5 hours collecting food from the local grocery stores their families frequent & EARN $50 each ($10 / hour) in credit from & to that grocery store.
SAVE by establishing their very own educational savings account.
**Local business sponsors match the students’ financial education with a $50 in-kind donation to jumpstart their college savings accounts!
