BENEFITING: CIRCLE OF SISTERHOOD FOUNDATION INC
For too many women around the world, receiving an education remains a privilege, not a right. There are over 60 million girls out of school worldwide. Without an education, it is far too easy for these women to fall victim to not only poverty, but also to oppressive acts such as rape, sex trafficking, child marriage and contraction of sexually transmitted diseases. Fortunately for these women, there is a way to break the barriers to education.
When girls and women are educated, the cycle of violence and oppression can be broken. Educated women earn 25% more income and invest over 90% into their families, breaking the poverty cycle. Educated women are less likely to become victims of human trafficking. Educated women are three times less likely to contract HIV. Educated women have children who are 40% more likely to live past the age of 5. Even one year of education beyond the average, boosts a girls’ eventual wages by 10-20%.
The Circle of Sisterhood was founded in 2010 by Ginny Carroll. This foundation works to raise money to help break barriers to girls’ educations around the world. The Panhellenic Association at the University of Miami has worked closely with this foundation for many years. This year, we have adopted a new initiative through their Ambassador Trek Program. We aim to raise $50,000 with the ultimate goal of building a school in a developing nation.
We have been fortunate enough to attend an incredible university, have access to a world class education, and become members of sororities that support our success. We humbly ask for your assistance so that we can offer this opportunity to other women as well.
A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.
If you are donating behalf of a sorority/individual in our community, please put the name in the comment box. The sororities are: Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Phi Epsilon, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Delta Tau, Zeta Tau Alpha.
