BENEFITING: HOME OF HOPE INDIA-US
Meet Reena. She's about 6 years old, and though she is now smiling, not long ago she was held down, hand and foot, while a darning needle was plunged through her eye in order to make her a more sympathetic beggar. After hearing Reena's story, I knew I had to help. So I traveled to India and spent the summer of 2010 living and teaching there. There I witnessed first hand the incredible poverty and inhumane treatment of orphan girls, children like Reena, children left in the street to starve, sold into a life of prostitution or taken in by the beggar mafia and maimed in order to become more sympathetic beggars. There are hundreds of vulnerable girls just like Reena, struggling to survive not only the peril of destitution but exploitive sexual predators as well. Through my continued association with a wonderful charity, Homes of Hope India - US, I want to tell you about an exciting challenge we have…to build an orphanage for girls like Reena in India.
I have pledged to build the Girls' Study Room in the new orphanage in Solabasti. This is a $5000 effort, and I need your help. Any amount you are able to give will be very much appreciated. Together we can make a difference!
