Let's Help Baby AJ
Organized by: Joshua Grizzle
This is a fundraiser to help 13 month old AJ and his parents, Andrew and Tara.
When a child is sick or struggling, a parent's only wish is to take that struggle away; to treat whatever the cause may be.
Normally, a child sees a doctor, the doctor gives a diagnosis, and treatment is immediately started.
But unfortunately, things are not always as easy as they should be. In addition to complex medical issues, in the land of insurance codes, deductibles and loopholes, sometimes a simple test can set a family back thousands and thousands of dollars, before any talk of treatment has even begun. This is the reality that sweet AJ's parents are facing, specifically an out of pocket cost of at least $5,000 for a genetic diagnostic test.
At just 13 months old, AJ has been through more medical tests than many adults: an MRI, CT Scan, X-ray of his neck, multiple labs and blood work, and three hospital stays within his first 12 months.. While his most severe struggles remain undiagnosed, he has been diagnosed with Epilepsy, he is visually impaired, has had tubes placed in his ears, and has been working with First Steps of Missouri for Occupational and Speech Therapy. During his first six weeks of life he had failure to thrive, then suffered from feeding problems and short stature. In addition, it was recently discovered that he cannot tolerate the milk-based formulas that he had been taking for the last year.
The list of departments where he has been seen is extensive, including Gastroenterology, Integrated Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology, Opthamology, as well as feeding specialists.
At his age, most babies are on their way to walking, however AJ can not sit up, crawl or pull himself up. He has severely delayed fine and gross motor skills.
A genetic test would properly diagnose AJ so that the appropriate treatment he needs can begin!
In a country with some of the best doctors on the planet, not being able to diagnose AJ (or any innocent child) because of an insurance issue is a travesty. The parents have contacted multiple organizations seeking assistance but have not found the right one that can help them. Please consider helping this little angel with a diagnosis so that he can begin treatment as soon as possible. AJ's mommy has a birthday next month and nothing would make her happier than a treatment plan for her little boy. Let's make that a reality and show this family that they are not alone! It really does take a village to raise a child, so let's come together and show how much we love AJ and his parents. Please consider donating to this family.
This fundraiser seeks to assist with the astronomical out of pocket cost of the test ($5,000+), and hopes to be able to raise enough to help with or cover the first year of therapy school and perhaps even aquatic therapy.
If you can't donate, please share near and far. Your share could be the one that puts them in touch with an organization that can help, or with a potential donor. Thank you and please keep this beautiful boy and his family close to your heart as they tackle (and overcome!) this obstacle.
