BENEFITING: Centro Latino for Literacy
EVENT DATE: Sep 08, 2014
Isn’t reading wonderful? Many of you probably have your summer reading list prepared and are getting ready to explore new worlds without having to physically travel to get there!
Centro Latino for Literacy (Centro Latino) adult learners come from different walks of life and they all share one thing in common…they want to learn to read and write. But with little to no schooling in their primary years, reading has eluded them. That doesn’t have to be the case. Adult learners like María Menjivar learned to read and write through our online Leamos™ (Let’s Read) course. By accessing our course through the web, adults can learn at their convenience in the comfort of their own home or through our growing network of Literacy Partners found throughout Los Angeles County and currently in seven states.
With your help we can expand our Literacy Partner network to reach more non-literate Spanish speaking adults in communities across the U.S. No small task as there are over 1.6 million non-literate Spanish speaking adults living in the U.S. Basic literacy enables adults to help their children with their homework, access better employment opportunities, and learn English – often their #1 goal.
All donations made to this campaign will go to strengthening our Literacy Partner network by integrating the organizations onto one web platform.
