Let There Be Colour - Dimensions Entertainment
Organized by: Gemma Dimensions
Dimensions entertainment is a voluntary organisation based in North London, which provides activities and services for the local community, with the primary aim to engage with the public through dance, costume and Caribbean culture. Over years we have built a great reputation by providing a excellent service and have paved the road for many young dancers and artists to be successful in a challenging media, and creative arts industry. Dimensions would like to take our project to wider audiences by inspiring the community, through our unique and memorable Style of expression. Throughout our research we have identified people living in Haringey area who would welcome the opportunity to attend the weekly dance class, however there is a shortage of suitable and affordable premises in this area and also an issue with new audiences not understanding where to get the information to attend these projects. Haringey is one of the most diverse boroughs in London with over 80% of young people in the area being non-white, it also has a high crime rate, with Contributing factors including; Poor social housing, decrease confidence in police, lack of rehabilitation and crime being committed by young people against young people. Our regular weekly dance classes use various studios available in our local area, which are free to all participants, and have an open door policy. Our program attracts people of all ages from the local and surrounding areas to participate and in turn work together. Our projects are a collaboration of professional, volunteers and young people working together for a common goal. Outside of our regular classes we hold taster sessions, projects and short courses for schools and Community centres, who want to engage in dance and other cultural activities, such as costume workshops, where participants can learn to design and make costumes, learn the history and culture of carnival and the carnival industry itself. Our projects are geared towards people who enjoy experiencing new things, getting fit/ healthy and also understanding West Indian culture and heritage. This is a project where participants can work together to produce something that they can be proud of, in a fun and engaging environment. As a part of this project all participants of our sessions have the opportunity to be a part of our carnival calendar of events. Dimensions aim to build a permanent home for the organisation and have already been donated the space, but need funds for construction. This would be a great asset to the group and also to our community as a whole. Thanks for your time.
