BENEFITING: FOOD FINDERS FOOD BANK INC
1 in 4 children in Indiana are food insecure. Even mild malnutrition can affect a child's ability to learn.
Food Finders runs the Backpack Program, designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends. Each school’s administration first selects the eligible children, then a backpack filled with 6-8 pounds of nutritious, kid-friendly food is sent home with them each Friday. Volunteer Packing Partners fill the backpacks each week. Begun in 2006 with two schools, the BackPack Program has grown to serve over 4,000 children in 15 counties.
We, the Level 5 Sunday school class of the Islamic Society of Greater Lafayette (ISGL) have decided to raise funds for the Backpack Program so that we can help feed hungry children in our own schools and community.
Our class is interviewing administrators who help coordinate Backpack Programs at our schools, as well as some of our classmates who use the program. We are also volunteering with Packing Partners to help fill backpacks for our classmates.
The results of our fundraising and experiences will be presented at our Sunday School graduation event on May 11, 2014. Please donate whatever you can to help this worthy cause. Just $7 provides a week’s worth of food for a child in need. Even $1 will go a long way!
