LEWA Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya employs community development as a conservation strategy and conservation as a community development strategy. LEWA’s beloved wildlife - particularly elephant and rhino – are under constant threat from poachers. Our Rangers work day and night to keep them safe through security operations, community development programs, and serving as ambassadors to raise awareness amongst LEWA’s neighbors.
Join us this holiday season as we celebrate the men and women who work tirelessly to save wildlife each and everyday, living in the bush, unarmed but always vigilant.
- LEWA’s field rangers keep careful watch over all wildlife on LEWA, especially each individual rhino under our care.
- Rhinos on LEWA represent a greater community conservation effort, with more than 55,000 people in LEWA's surrounding communities positively affected by our work. This inspires loyalty and conservation awareness to help combat the growing threat of wildlife crime.
- LEWA's Ranger Ambassadors have special insight into LEWA’s work: their children attend LEWA sponsored schools, their wives receive pre-natal care at LEWA healthcare clinics and their vehicles are maintained by the LEWA operations department.
- Show your support for these brave men and women who are protecting some of the world’s most endangered mega-fauna. These species are not only beloved, they are part of a greater community-based relationship in northern Kenya between people and wildlife.
LEWA Wildlife Conservancy is a safe refuge to over 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population, over 14% of Kenya’s white rhino population - not to mention hundreds of elephant that migrate through every year. These animals are under constant threat from poachers but LEWA’s security operations are considered to be one of the finest wildlife security forces in the world.
LEWA has recently been incorporated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized by the IUCN Green List, and received accolades from World Responsible Tourism Awards and the Safari Awards this year. By giving to LEWA, you are supporting award winning men and women and helping them to continue their globally renowned conservation and development work.
