With your help, I will spend my summer changing the lives of women and children in Africa.
When I saw this opportunity to personally empower women in Ghana and teach them how to provide their families with ongoing access to clean water, I had to act. Water is something that everyone needs, without question, and the reality is that so many people around the world do not have safe access to this basic necessity.
My name is Lexie Lessing and I am a first-year at Middlebury College. I have been selected to be a Summer 2016 Saha Field Representative and will be spending 3 weeks in June in a rural village in Northern Ghana. My job will be to travel to this village and give these women a helping hand in the right direction. As a Field Rep, I will be involved in the start-to-sustainable process of creating a water purifying business. From meeting with village chiefs to building the purifying center to showing the women how to run a water business to setting up the village for prolonged water success, I will be fully involved. One of the most amazing things I’ve found with Saha’s approach, is the realistic solution of using purifying materials that can be bought in local Ghana markets. This means that businesses can sustain themselves. Of the 78 water businesses Saha has set up, 100% of them are still in operation. I intend to add to this number.
But before I can do all of this, I need to raise money to pay for this operation. Any and all donations will be gratefully welcomed. The cost of this trip is $2,950 and this money will be used to pay for start-up materials for these businesses, including purifying materials, water drums, and water containers that will be distributed to each family. This will also help to cover in-country travel and living expenses in the town of Salaga where I will be staying. Any donations past my goal, will continue to go Saha Global to help them pay for future projects.
