THE STORY:

As many of you know, I had made it my goal to run the Boston Marathon in 2014, little did I know, I would be given the opportunity to run with an amazing foundation and an inspiring team. A member of my team, Jennifer, was at the finish line in the area of the first bomb. She sustained mostly internal injuries and is still recovering today. You can read more of her story below.

I need YOUR help! I am looking to raise $5,000 for the Lupus Foundation of New England. Any contribution is sincerely appreciated!

See you at the finish line!

Jennifer's Story....

Nearly 1 year ago a significant event happened to me that changed my life for the better, although at first glance it may have appeared a horrific tragedy. I was one of the injured at the finish line of the Boston marathon bombing. Today, I consider myself a triumphant survivor. In honor of the upcoming 1 year anniversary, survivors will be given the opportunity to run in the 2014 Boston marathon. I never imagined myself participating in a marathon, but I honestly can't think of a better way to mark overcoming obstacles, experiencing breakthroughs, and rising above tremendous challenges. The bombing was an event that literally brought my life to a screeching halt. I was within feet of the exact location that the first bomb exploded at the finish line. When I look back at the pictures, I realize I am truly lucky to be alive. I sustained, ear, neck, back, and internal injuries affecting my major organs. Equally as traumatic were the emotional injuries. I was laced with tremendous fear and severe anxiety and it has literally taken me months to feel safe in the world again.

Surprisingly, life can deliver blessings in the midst of tragedy. I have received great gifts of healing from people I know, and those I've just met. I've also had the opportunity to recently attend amazing events that have been hosted in honor of the Boston marathon survivors. At one such event, I met an amazing man who many people, including myself, would consider a hero. Jimmy Plourde is a Boston firefighter and was one of the first responders who helped save many people's lives. Jimmy doesn't consider himself a hero though, there is someone in his life that he considers far more heroic. Jimmy's sister is living with lupus an autoimmune disease that affects primarily women between the ages of 15-45, it can be debilitating and has no cure. Interestingly a dear friend of mine is undergoing testing as she too may have this horrible disease. What does this all have to do with the bombing you might ask? Let me explain.

As I mentioned above, I plan to complete the marathon. However, I cannot complete this journey alone. I will need help physically and emotionally to undertake this 26.2 mile journey. The Boston Marathon is a world-renowned event and participants typically must qualify to earn a number. When I met Jimmy, I learned that the Lupus foundation had 2 charity numbers available. I do not believe for a second that this is a coincidence. With these extra numbers, 2 wonderful friends (one of whom is one of my amazing Doctor's and now wonderful friend) have agreed to support me in my quest to mark my triumph over tragedy by completing the marathon with me. At the same time, I get to raise money for a cause that has become near and dear to my heart, both because of my friend and to honor Jimmy for his courage and selflessness on the day that dramatically changed my life. I hope you will consider donating to this cause which is so personal to me. I am inspired more than ever to make a difference. You would be helping to fund research towards a cure for this cruel disease, you would be celebrating me and my life, and you would be honoring all of the victims that suffered such a senseless crime that day. Please help me make a difference! You can donate by clicking on the link below. Also, please pass this along to whomever you think would be willing to help make a difference too. Thank you!
