EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
As most of you know, I ran my first marathon last year in Boston and was .4 miles away when I was stopped. Since the marathon last year, I vowed to myself that I would do anything in my power to get back on that route and run the marathon again this year. I was just about to give up hope on ever getting a number when I was brought, by fate, to Jennifer Kauffman and the Lupus Foundation of New England. I had just had my first patient in home care that was living with lupus and saw first hand how it impacts daily functioning and how debilitating it can be. Lupus is an auto-immune disease which has no cure.
Since joining this team, I found out that Jennifer is a survivor of the marathon bombings. She was 20 feet away from the first bomb explosion. Hearing her story of survival and determination has reinforced, for me, the reason I needed to run this year. It is for all the survivors of the tragedy and those families that lost loved ones that day. Since the Marathon last year, I unexpectedly lost my own father and the sadness and hurt I feel everyday can not even come close to that of those parents who lost their children in the bombings.
When I run this year, I will not only be running for my dad, but those families affected by the marathon bombings and the millions of people living with lupus and hoping for a cure.
I appreciate everyone for listening to my story and helping me raise money for the Lupus Foundation! I will cross that finish line this year!!!
