Matthew Chen wrote -In New York City there is a substantial lack of information about LGBTQ history and the activism that has won us the rights we enjoy today. While that activism continues it is vitally necessary that we have a space for our youths to learn about what has been done by our community in the past and why.
Gay, Lesbian and Straight Supporters (GLASS) is the only community center based LGBTQ program in Northern Manhattan. Capitalizing on G.L.A.S.S.'s previous success at bringing together multiple communities around the strengthening of the LGBTQ identified youth, this library project will broaden the spectrum of queer identified youth's we are able to aid. Attendants will have an opportunity not only to learn more about LGBTQ history and culture, but have access to safe space to discuss and engage others from a wide range of age groups. The Space also will serve as a venue for events both from within the NYCHA community and through partnerships with other organizations. Finally the space will have an educational function, with events focused around specific individuals who fought for our rights and then had their memory erased by the mainstream media.
