BENEFITING: CHANGE AGENT NETWORK, INC
Yassah's Sisters is providing the women of Liberia, West Africa with the opportunity to create sustainable income enabling them to rise out of poverty, create a future of good health and well-being and experience themselves as empowered agents of change.
Lofa County in Liberia, West Africa may seem too far away to be a concern for our part of the world. The reality is that no matter the distance, we as a communities can make a difference in the lives of many who need a hand.
Fourteen years of civil war that began in 1989 caused tremendous loss in the small country of Liberia. The once modern, upwardly mobile country was completely devastated. Because the women of Liberia came together and demanded peace, the country began to heal. By reclaiming the spirit of the culture, Liberians elected the first female African president in 2005. Since then, President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson has been leading the way to Liberia's recovery. When you ask a Liberian woman about her country's difficult past, you won't get a "pity-me" story. Instead, you hear a message of hope and reconciliation. There are plenty of Liberians who believe in positive change, growth and sustainability. Many in this hard-working culture need a hand-up, not a hand-out. One such group of women is Yassah's Sisters.
The organization was founded in 2010 by Lafayette local heroine Fran Clarke. Yassah's Sisters helps empower women in Lofa County, Liberia by creating an opportunity to rise out of poverty. By providing funds for seeds, tools, and micro-loans, Yassah's Sisters is rapidly expanding its program to other agricultural endeavors, thereby fueling other groups of women in their country to sustainability. The ripple effect is moving in a dynamic way!
We're on a mission to empower these strong women one seed at a time! Please help us develop and grow this generative program, Yassah's Sisters, by donating to "Libations for Liberia". This rockin' event will be held Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2011 at Lafayette's own Blue Moon Saloon. By joining others, our generous communities can give back in an incredibly powerful way!
We are sorry you can't make the show, but we thank you for your generous support!
