In Uganda, the districts of Apac, Amolatar and Dokolo are often labelled as the country's " forgotten districts". Although they suffered the flak of the civil war that ravaged Northern Uganda, the three haven't fully benefited from post war rehabilitation programmes implemented by civil society, non government organisation and the government of Uganda . With a combined population of over 900,000 people, illiteracy rates of over 60% and district GDP of below 90$; these communities in these districts live in abject poverty. Its against this that a team of social entrepreneurs have launched a community interest company called Kioga Basket.Utilizing the shrewdness and agility of a private sector enterprise with community empathy and outlook of a humanitarian organization, Kioga basket envisages creating jobs, creating wealth, delivering efficient social services to the region. Kioga basket's flagship enterprise is a 15,000 sq meters aquaculture operation , on Lake Kwania. A nucleus farm will cover 9000 sq metres and small holders will operate another 7,000 sq meters. The project is at advanced stage of licensing however this can only happen after a Environment and Social Impact Assessment study has been conducted on the project. We are seeking 100,000$ to enable us foot the consultancy fees of an internationally reputed environment and social consulting firm that will undertake studies on our project. Once this is submitted to the government the project will be licensed . Project implementation thereafter will be easy because an Norwegian angel investor has been identified and all they need is a Licence. Hence the districts
