BENEFITING: Somaly Mam Foundation
The other night while I lounged comfortably on my couch, I stumbled on the documentary, Half the Sky. I had read the book about 2 years ago, but seeing it in reality shocked me to the core. In our modern day society, women and girls around the world are bought, sold, beaten and forced into sexual acts- some as young as 3 years old. Most of us have become numb to our world’s issues, allowing us to flip through channels of tragedy and need in this world. This, however, is not an issue I can turn the channel on.
Somaly Mam was one of those girls. After witnessing the murder of her best friend by their brothel owner, escaped as a slave and has now dedicated her life to save others from this horrific and tragic life. Her organization saves women and children from life in the brothels, nourishes them, educations them and, probably the most important gift of all, shows them they are loved.
Please help me to make a small dent in the world crisis that is child sex trafficking. While I live in a city that celebrates excess, so many are fighting for basic rights and freedom. My goal is to donate any birthday, Christmas, and other related monetary gifts, as well as rely on the kindness of my friends and family, to help raise the money to sponsor one girl's rescue and resurrection from this awful darkness that resides in our world. Please read and share the story of Somaly Mam and help get one more girl out of the brothels.
