At 16 years of age, Orphans in the Ukraine "age out" of the orphanages. Although the state assists in college tuition, it does not help with living expenses or provide a place for these kids during the several year gap between 16 and college. As a result, approximately 60% of the girls will end up in prostitution, 70% of boys will end up in a life of crime or in prison, and 10% will commit suicide before their 18th birthday.

Almost three years ago, our family had the opportunity to host an orphan in our home that was lovely, smart, funny and talented. Viktoria was found on the street when she was approximately seven years old and has lived in an orphanage since that time. She is now 16 and desperately wants to become part of our family. Over a year ago, we traveled to Ukraine to adopt her and was told that for the third time her paperwork was "lost" and the process would have to start over. There is a mandatory 14 month waiting period for paperwork to be processed. Vika is now available and ready to come to her "forever" home.

In the last year my husband has suffered health issues which has put a financial strain on our family due to his inability to work and mounting medical obligations. We are weeks away from our appointment to adopt Vika but the financial challenges have left our fund set aside for adoption very limited.

A year and a half ago, we adopted an 11 year old girl from the same area, Tanya (now Zari) has been an amazing addition to our family and has blossomed in her new environment. Although she had no experience in gymnastics prior to coming to the States, she is now working with an Olympic coach and has an amazing raw talent that leaves everyone in awe of her abilities. Her parents both died when she was a baby but she has adjusted very well to living in a loving home and adores her brother who is the same age.

During our previous adoption, we hosted a fundraiser which allowed us to raise enough money to donate 30 beds to a Vika's orphanage. With the help of World Orphan Project., this donation helped the orphanage get children off of beds were part of military barracks during Word War II. The orphanage is still in need of more beds and pillows to provide sleeping for the great number of children they house. Snow Drops Orphanage currently has over 100 kids that have great and diverse needs to just provide the very necessities of life.

As our burden has grown to help and support these children, we would like help with donations to fund the adoption of Vika as well as provide a much needed donation of additional beds and pillows to the orphanage. The fees for adoption and travel will be approximately $30,000 and any funds less than that and all additional funds will go to the purchase of beds and bedding for these wonderful and hurting children.

Adopting Zari over a year ago has changed her life but more importantly it has changed Allen, Kade and myself in ways that are indescribable. We believe that Vika is meant to be a part of our family and we believe that after all these years, failed adoptions, and huge disappointments, the time has come for Vika to come our home, and a life that will bring her happiness, comfort and a real family for the first time in her life.

We hope and pray that you will feel the leadership to share as we have felt the leadership to ask. May God Bless you all for your prayers and support.
