BENEFITING: NEW MEXICO PETS ALIVE
New Mexico sure has beautiful wide open spaces and no shortage of available land but our state does certainly have a shortage of adequate infrastructure and programming for at-risk homeless pets in New Mexico. Each year approximately 100,000 healthy and treatable homeless pets are not given adequate health and sheltering services or worse, they are killed, without ever having that second chance to find a loving, forever home they deserve. We've learned from large animal welfare organizations such as Maddies Fund that we have 17 million people every year across the United States who would be willing to adopt a homeless pet into their families (see: http://www.maddiesfund.org/Resource_Library/The_Shelter_Pet_Project_By_the_Numbers.html). That's an incredible number of available homes, far above what we need to help our homeless pets across the United States and even right here in New Mexico via adoption and transport to safe rescue efforts.
Our organization, New Mexico Pets Alive!, works to advocate for, educate about and create programming to eliminate the killing of companion animals in the state of New Mexico. Since we founded our organization in May of 2011, the number of requests for assistance from animal control depts and shelters to take animals into our developing programming is far beyond anything we were initially anticipating. We now receive 50 - 100 emails per week from across New Mexico asking for help with stray animals and pet surrenders. Did you know that the United States now has over 200 cities and towns, composing 63 communities, who now save upwards of 98% of their diverse communities' lost and homeless pets? The progress being made all across our country and in our neighboring states can also be duplicated here in New Mexico.
The effort we are asking you to join will help us take the next big step toward progress for our people and pets in New Mexico. We need your partnership with our organization to fund a land purchase/basic infrastructure installation purchase through this crowd-funding platform. We are fortunate to have received many pledges of architectural design, construction services and in-kind materials donations to begin construction of the first LifeRaft Lodge to help meet the programming and life saving needs of approximately 20,000 at-risk homeless pets in New Mexico each year. All we need now is to purchase or receive a donation of land (at which time, we would then use funding to lay basic infrastructure for power, water and waste services) in order to move this much needed project forward. We now need your help to complete this purchase to allow us to be well on our way to moving on to the project construction phase. Thanks in part to fiscally conservative planning and various levels of support pledges, we will be able to complete this first LifeRaft Lodge project for approximately 1/2 of what other organizations are spending or have spent on similar project construction.
Please join us today to deliver the physical infrastructure and programming our state is currently lacking to help 20,000 at-risk homeless pets each year to find a loving, forever home. This 1st LifeRaft Lodge location will work to initially serve the unmet lifesaving programming needs of homeless pets in the New Mexico counties of Santa Fe, Bernalillo, Valencia, Torrance, Socorro, Sierra and Dona Ana. Let's help these healthy and treatable pets get the second chance they deserve!
