BENEFITING: LIFT Fitness Foundation
My involvement in the LIFT program has been to encourage, support and workout alongside these incredibly determined individuals. It's inspiring to hear their stories and see the pains they are all taking to turn their lives around. What's great about this program is that it doesn't just run these individuals through weekly workouts; Jim White and his volunteer experts teach the LIFT participants how to continue living a healthy lifestyle once the one-month course is over. Every participant receives a pedomitor, a water bottle, healthy snacks and recipes for healthy snacks. They graduate from the program with a sense of accomplishment and they are empowered to continue their wellness journey! As a mental health professional, I've worked with low income populations for many years and find that overall physical health and nutrition are greatly overlooked in this population, despite the fact that these elements play a key role in their daily performance of household and work-related tasks. This program meets a need that has not been otherwise met in the community!
