We are from Cameron House, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco's Chinatown. Cameron House provides multi-services in our community from family counseling to after school tutoring.
A new service project we have started is a young adult led project called "Light the Night." The purpose of “Light the Night” is to inspire people (and the youth in our community) to help out the community, provide a listening ear to those who are not usually heard, and to show compassion towards the less fortunate. We plan to dispatch groups of volunteers with care packages to distribute to people without homes throughout the streets between Chinatown and downtown San Francisco.
Each handmade care package contains basic necessities such as socks, sandwiches, and a warm drink. Reaching out to the local homeless community also enables us to initiate conversation and show love and compassion to our often neglected neighbors. The tax-deductible donations received will all be used towards buying food, blankets, dental hygiene supplies, and other basic necessities that will be given to people without homes.
Each "care package" will cost around $3 to $4 and will consist of said food and supplies listed above, varying with each event. By achieving this goal of $600 we will be able to provide for those without homes for at least six months (We go out every first Friday of the month and other "pop" up days). Any amount matters and will make a difference.
