In Anglade, Haiti, hundreds of families live in poverty and darkness. If they do not have candles, they either wait for daylight, or step out of their one room home to catch the moonlight.
We are five high school students from Totino Grace catholic high school in Fridley, Minnesota. Please help us achieve our goal of delivering portable solar powered lights to 120 huts in Anglade. The lights cost $15.00 apiece and we are targeting two for each home. This is enough to light their homes for years to come. How incredible is that?!
We plan to acquire and physically deliver the lights to Anglade this August 2016. We plan to spend a few days getting to know the people and the many needs of this impoverished community. We’re excited to bring LIGHT to this community and hopefully inspire future students like us to meet other needs of this community.
Haiti is also one of the most desolate and poorest region/country on this planet. In the spirit of our LaSallian school, we are bringing light to the darkest place, symbolizing bringing the hope of God's love and light to the darkest place. We are sharing of our gifts and some of the things we take for granted.
Our project is being organized and assisted through Kim Butorac of Music of the Heart, which brings used marching band equipment and uniforms from the US to poor villagers in L'Asile, Haiti. Kim’s contact in Haiti is a French priest, Fr. David who is very excited about this project and cannot believe his prayers are being answered.
In the following months, we have a goal to raise $4,000 to buy the lights, get additional funds to deliver the lights, and spend time with these villagers. This will require an additional $6,000 for a total goal of $10,000. Would you like to help? We are looking for people to sponsor lights or help pay our traveling expenses. Each solar light costs $15, $30 is enough to sponsor a home or donations in any amount would help greatly with our travel expenses.
100% of the funds will go toward the lights and trip expenses. Any extra funds raised will go toward helping pay for a new schoolhouse. We plan to learn from these villagers about ourselves and how blessed we truly are. We have been given gifts and we will put them to work. Please pray for us as we plan this journey that will surely change their lives as well as ours...forever! We appreciate your spiritual gifts of prayer as well as any monetary donations.
