In September 2014, Vanderbilt will come together as a force for good.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: An anonymous donor has a greed to match us dollar for dollar, UP TO $50,000! Please be generous and know that your dollar goes TWICE AS FAR.
It would be a shame not to hit this goal and to leave money on the table.
Who we are: Lights on the Lawn is a group that has come together to do our part to move Vanderbilt forward in a positive way against sexual violence and a group seeking to engage the larger Vanderbilt and Nashville communities as a force for good. Oh, and we are counting on you to join us.
Who we support: Lights on the Lawn supports the Mary Parrish Center, an all encompassing transitional living and therapeutic housing program for women and families who are victims of domestic and sexual violence. The work they do on a daily basis to rebuild lives is nothing short of incredible. Walking into the Mary Parrish Center is like walking into a giant hug. Let’s bring this hug to Vanderbilt.
Our Goal: The Mary Parrish Center has 11 apartments for families to stay in while they get back on their feet. Rent and utilities for each apartment costs $5,000 per year. Last year we raised $55,000, enough to pay for the rent for every apartment for an entire year.
In traditional Vanderbilt fashion, this year we have again set our sights high, and we have decided to pay the rent for every apartment for one year once again. On top of this, however, we want to raise enough to provide both supplies and support for the center. Thus, our goal for this event this year is to raise $100,000. This donation will be the largest of its kind to the Mary Parrish Center. The impact that this gift will have on the Mary Parrish Center and the families who call it their home is absolutely huge.
And with a $50,000 matching grant, we have both a huge opportunity and no excuse not to hit our goal.
What we will do: We will celebrate the women and children of the Mary Parrish Center and our school at a concert on Alumni Lawn to be held in September 2014.
