Light Up Vuya! - Help Vuya Village Get Electricity
Organized by: Brooke McDavid
EVENT DATE Oct 24, 2014
Vuya has been working together as a community for the past 3 years toward several sustainable development goals. Electrification is a major project they are almost close to achieving.
The Fijian government has asked that they contribute 5% of the total project cost, which amounts to $34,000FJD (~$18,500USD), before work can begin. The village has worked to raise over $25,000FJD since January this year. They only have a short amount of time left to raise the remaining funds.
It takes just $270FJD (or $150 USD) to bring electricity to one household. This is a major burden for many families who are struggling to meet basic needs. Electricity will bring many new opportunities to Vuya and increase the standard of living.
As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Vuya, I am trying to raise a small fund on their behalf to help them meet their goal. Any donation will go a long way to helping light up Vuya!
