Lily of the Mountains
Organized by: Theresa McGill
Lily and I are a well oiled machine in need of costly repairs. Even with painful injury she keys into my anxiety and gives me warning~
I contracted Shingles and Lily's scheduled for surgery for complete wrist fusion on October 28. I could really use help with my fundraiser. Please consider it if your time is available.
Lily is my command trained companion of 4 years. She's been with me for 6. She and rescued each other when she was 2 years old.
Two months ago Lily underwent major surgery for invasive gum tissue growth which had invaded the bone in her upper palate. With growths removed, 1/4 of the bone in her upper palate taken, 5 teeth taken, 80 stitches later, and 2 months convalescence she was ready for a romp.
Lily and I follow the wildlife trails and upon catching the scent of deer she gave chase. When she did not return on command immediately or answer my whistles I knew something was up. I found her limping across a tall field of grass finding her way back to me. Lily tore the fascia and plantar ligaments at their connection in her right wrist and hyper extended and fractured the carpal bone. Lily and I met with the ortho vet specialist this morning and I've decided to have her wrist fused. The brace will only be a bandaid and stabilizing her injury is the better decision. The surgery costs more than the brace and I will simply have to start knocking on some more doors! It's a 2-3 month recovery for her.
I am permanently disabled. I have always suffered low back pain. As an athlete and landscape/organic gardener it seemed business as usual. A birth defect, found 3 years ago, has shifted my low spine, hips and pelvis. I had my right hand and wrist reconstructed 2 years ago. I have PTSD and live with depression. I have quite a high pain tolerance, but don't have the right read on my pain level until it reaches a level that anxiety begins for me. Lily reads my anxiety and tells me when it's time to get safe or panic will ensue. So long as Lily's quality of life is healthy and happy I want to keep her well and with me until she's the old lady of the mountains.
