Some of you may know me while others may not, but we are all connected because of one very special little girl, Lillian Ann Dunkerton. Unfortunately Lily's time here on Earth was limited, but she certainly left something lasting with me that I am sure a lot of you would agree that she left with you as well.
Lily has shown the sacredness of life and that every moment on this Earth can and should be cherished and absolutely filled with love. With her memory always with me, my personal quest is to run the 2012 ING Hartford Half Marathon dedicated to Lily, her legacy and the precious gift that she has given to me. The race is on the 13th of October, which also happens to be Infant Loss Remembrance Month.
I will be running with butterfly wings on my back as well as in my heart. In addition to all of this, I will be running for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) which was not only where Lily was treated, but was also her "home" for majority of her short life.
The CCMC is an amazing place where children are not only given exceptional medical treatment, but they are also given the hope, love, and strength they so desperately need. It was the CCMC that made it possible for Lily's incredible parents, Jeff and Amber, to be blessed with so many beloved moments with her that they will forever hold in their hearts. It was the CCMC that nurtured Lily's amazing strength and enabled her, in her brief life, to know nothing but love. For the children still with the CCMC, Lily's legacy is one of hope, love, and strength.
Please support the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and help keep Lily's legacy running.
Love, Rosa Fernandes
