I am so very honored to be asked to join this growing team and run the ING Hartford Half Marathon in memory of a very special angel, Lillian Dunkerton.
Having two little girls of my own, and having been a teacher for 21 years, I truly understand the magic of children.
Lily's time on earth was too short, and I never had the pleasure of meeting her. However, Lily's grandmother, Maureen is a colleague of mine. Through Maureen's stories, I was able to share in the love that Lily brought her family.
In addition, I will be running for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) which was not only where Lily was treated, but was also her "home" for majority of her short life. Last year, the team of 2 runners and 12 cheering fans raised over $3,000 for the CCMC! I am looking forward to running with this team and offering my support for such a wonderful and worthy cause.
In case you don't know, the CCMC is an amazing place where children are not only given exceptional medical treatment, but they are also given the hope, love, and strength they so desperately need. It was the CCMC that made it possible for Lily's incredible parents to be blessed with so many beloved moments with her which they will forever hold in their hearts. It was the CCMC that nurtured Lily's amazing strength and enabled her, in her brief life, to know nothing but love. For the children still with the CCMC, Lily's legacy is one of hope, love, and strength.
I so greatly appreciate any support you can offer!
Thank you so much, Donna Nash
