Lily's Teaching Bonus
Organized by: Alastair Butler
My girlfriend Lily has been teaching at a charter school in New Orleans for the past two years, teaching middle school aged children from underprivileged. I've never witnessed someone take on a more difficult job. I've seen her work 70 hour weeks (not joking) on a regular basis. This is because aside from doing the work she's required to do, Lily takes it upon herself to plan creative and fun lessons for the kids, often using her own money to buy extra supplies for the kids.
And it paid off! Last year on the 7th grade science LEAP exams (end of the year standardized tests), 84% of her students passed, a higher number than any other school in her network and in the top 10% of charter schools in the city.
The point is, she's really, really awesome at what she does. However, somehow, through some loophole, her school didn't give her the bonus that many other teachers got, and she clearly earned. It's hard for her to put in so much work and just be overlooked like that. So I decided to enlist the help of the internet to get her that bonus. The average amount a lot of people got was about $1,500 to 2000. We don't have to raise that much, but if we can get enough people to donate just a little bit, we can show her how many people really do appreciate the hard work she's putting in for these kids.
Thank you so much!
