Lily: Teaching English in Monopoli
Organized by: Angela Harris
EVENT DATE Mar 01, 2016
Speaking fluent English is an essential and critical skill to empower children to improve their economic conditions. English is a necessity for future success in a globalized world and an increasingly integrated Europe because it is the international language of commerce and the internet. We will be a valuable resource in the community of Monopoli, Italy, where we will devote our time to school age students needing tutoring at the Conversational English Summer Camp. This service is provided to the students free of charge and is an invaluable opportunity to improve their personal lives and the whole of the community. We will make a real life impact by providing children and adults the language skills to expand and improve upon their varying levels of English.
The growth opportunities do not end with the host country, however. There are so many beneficial effects of volunteering on the the volunteer. Lily will have her first foray into large scale volunteering. At this important and critical time in her life she can build her commitment and dedication to worthy causes outside her own life. She can build a positive view of "paying it forward" while building her sense of purpose, pride, and identity. Teaching English to a diverse range of students will teach her valuable job skills that are not taught at universities and how to maintain a good work-life balance that provides benefits to the greater community. This experience, while providing invaluable assistance to families in the host country, will require thousands of dollars to cover the program costs, insurance, and travel expenses. Any amount you can spare, even just ten cents, will be appreciated and remembered always. Even if you are unable to donate to our cause, please pass this forward to your friends and family. Thank you!
