Whitney SAYS:
Dear Friends and Family, As…
Dear Friends and Family,
As I near my last week of training, Thank You again for your contribution and support. I have exceeded my goal by 131%! You have made this part of the preparation SO effortless, I wish the training was that easy. My training journey has been an adventure. I have learned that 4 miles is now, no big deal! I have run in the rain when no one else was out on the road and felt like I'd accomplished something big! . I had a wonderful long run of 14 miles when I was home in KC for the holidays. I got to run to my nieces work, through my old neighborhoods and even to my cousin's Lisa’s house for a perfectly timed restroom break. I have dealt with some swelling in my ankles, so aches in my low back but massages, body work and neon blue compression running socks have helped. My training has covered parts of the actual course (including the 59th St. Bridge while listening to Simon & Garfunkle's 59St Bridge Song "Feeling Groovy"!), which has helped in preparing. I have practiced the last 3 miles numerous times so I should "look good" for the photo finish!
If you are interested in tracking my race, I am bib #70674. There’s a free mobile app, TCS New York City Marathon Mobile App that you can download starting next week at the Itunes or Google Play Store. I leave in the last wave of runners at 10:55 am. If all goes well, I hope to finish the race around 5 -6 pm. (I'm just hoping to be ahead of the sweep buses!)
The journey has been a long one...and the finish line is near but still so far away. I have learned a lot. Less is more. Committing to the training and to myself has been huge. I don't LOVE running (I'm supposed to tell you I do) but I do appreciate it. I actually WANT to train for another, MUCH shorter race, next year...maybe a half marathon. The people I have seen while training from all walks of life have inspired me. I am blessed to have a body that enabled me to CHOOSE to do this marathon. Most of all, I'm honored to be raising money for PKD Foundation...and to help a family friend's children have a better shot at a long and healthy life.
THANK YOU for your support and belief in me! I will send a follow up when it's over. With deep gratitude,
