EVENT: NOPBC Laps for Literacy
EVENT DATE: Jul 30, 2017
My daughter, Lindsay, was born blind due to Leber's Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). I was stunned and scared to death. I had no idea how to raise a blind child - Lindsay was the first blind person I'd ever met! The National Organization of Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC), the parents' division of the National Federation of the Blind, (NFB) was there for us from the beginning, offering support, advice, resources, and programs to help Lindsay grow in skills, confidence, and independence. And just look at her now! She's going into high school next year. She has always attended public school, and she is as capable and independent as her sighted peers. She takes honors classes, makes good grades, and plays flute in the band. She is smart and creative and funny, and she really doesn't understand why people make such a big deal about blindness. She doesn't see it as a disadvantage, just a nuisance sometimes. We are raising money to support NOPBC, because I don't believe she would be where she is today without this organization. Please donate if you can.
