Lindsay Evens' Mitzvah Project: Ikamva Labantu Fuel2Grow
Organized by: Sue Evens
Hello, my name is Lindsay Evens. I am excited to have my Batmitzvah this December 2016 at Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa. I hope that the priviledge of having my special day there will in turn help children in South Africa much less fortunate than myself.
For my mitzvah project I have chosen to support impoverished and vulnerable school children in the Cape Town townships through an organization called Ikamva Labantu. For over 50 years, Ikamva Labantu has empowered South Africa's poor township communities to find solutions to their problems. Many of the children supported by Ikamva Labantu have been orphaned by the AIDS virus and live in difficult conditions.
Ikamva's Fuel2Grow campaign provides these children with nutritious meals, enriched afterschool care, supplies, healthcare screenings and additional support to help get them through school. It also provides hot meals to 200 students who attend the Child and Youth Enrichment program at the Rainbow Center outside Cape Town - for many, their only meal of the day.
I am asking for donations to help Fuel2Grow reach their target of R1.5 million this year and to provide support to the Rainbow Center for a wish list of supplies and resources for their afterschool enrichment program.
My goal is to raise $2,500. No donation is too small!
Your contribution can give these children the chance to grow into healthy and confident members of SA society and give them an alternative outcome for their future.
All children need fuel to grow, learn, play, study, dream, create, inspire…..
Thank you for your support and generosity in helping me to help these South African children.
