Matthew Shufro never imagined putting on a pair of boxing gloves. But he started to when he learned about Gleason’s Fighters4Life charity boxing event. And when he researched more about each of the charities, Matt knew it was time to step in the ring.
Matt is no stranger to the challenges faced by the people served by Give a Kid a Dream, Feather’s from Devon, Occupy Cancer and The Sato Project. As a young man, he battled a life-threatening bacterial pneumonia. This experience gave Matt a new appreciation for the courage needed to fight for one's health, the support of family, and the unsung heroism of many healthcare professionals.
A Massachusetts native, Matt grew up outside of Boston where he developed a passion for soccer and an interest in studying history. He started his career as a seventh grade social studies teacher, and today, he works for the New York City Department of Education to improve educational technology for students, parents, and teachers. It is important to note that while Matt currently resides in Brooklyn, he remains a proud Boston sports fan! A fact he should probably keep secret from his training partners…
Matt is inspired by individuals who devote their lives fighting for social and economic justice. Get in Matt's corner for a good cause and donate today to support Gleason’s Fighters4Life!
