BENEFITING: International Justice Mission
My birthday snuck up on me this year, and as I contemplated the usual celebratory plan for my 28th year, I was left feeling discontent. I realize with age that there is nothing more that I need. With a roof over my head, my civil liberties not in jeopardy, my health, and a loving family, I am not in need. Then, it dawned on me. There was a gift I could ask for; a gift that benefits not only myself but anyone who participates in the act of giving it—a donation to International Justice Mission.
There are more slaves globally today than ever before in history. Reports estimate there are more than 30 million people around the world who are victims of some form of slavery such as sex trafficking, police brutality, and property grabbing. More disturbing are that 2 million children make up this number with the average child worker being 12-13 years of age. The public justice systems of these developing countries—police, courts, and laws—are under such corruption that there is nothing to shield the poor from this violence. The International Justice Mission provides citizen's the resources to not only know their RIGHTS but to act on them. They work to help them take back control of their freedom. Without this help, citizen abuse continues to grow and causes the poor to remain defenseless.
Today, IJM has rescued more than 25,000 people from violence and oppression. Hundreds of lawyers, investigators, social workers, local community activists and other professional personal work in 17 field offices internationally. Together, they form the largest International anti-slavery organization in the world. Not only do they rescue individuals, they work to stop the violence before it begins by aiding local law enforcement, courts and communities.

I chose this charity because of it's high transparency rating. I felt it was important our money would not only contribute to the healing of individuals rescued but also the restructuring of their corrupt justice systems. Rather than spend $15+ on a group dinner or $10 on a drink in a crowded bar, please consider putting that money toward a donation which helps those truly in need. All donation amounts are significant!
