Linking Literature wrote -The Linking Learning Interactive Experience is a project focused on bridging the gap between fun and education for youth throughout the city of Detroit, thoroughly, one community at a time. This will be an extension of our Youth Literature Collection from the summer of 2015. Our goal is to create an interactive learning experience in which children participate in educational activities and obstacle courses that improve literacy, mathematics, artistic, and social skills, while also incorporating physical education and innovation in every activity. Throughout each activity, students will be able to acquire the essential resources needed for them to be successful in their upcoming academic year (backpacks, notebooks, calculators, etc.). This 2-day event would be held August 26th-27th, 2016. A scholarship raffle will be held for youth grades K-11 and an essay contest will be held to award graduating high school seniors with laptop scholarships in efforts to better prepare them for college. In addition to the Linking Learning Interactive Experience, we will be hosting Community Makeovers every weekend leading up to the event, beginning the first weekend in July. Our mission is to impact the youth of Detroit and their pride for their community, through interactive education, that teaches them to apply their knowledge with their skills in order to create new areas for growth throughout their personal and academics lives, and the city of Detroit. This project is participatory to those committed to working diligently towards a better future for Detroit. The purpose is to create friendly competition between Detroit communities that will expand to a citywide engagement, with Detroit residents of all ages and backgrounds volunteering to make their city beautiful. The goal is to turn this into an annual event, with the community showing the most improvement hosting the Linking Learning Interactive Experience the following summer. Our efforts will return Detroit into a self-reliable city that utilizes all of its resources, including its people, which will thrive for generations. Long-term, our organization’s vision is to put Linking Learning & Application Centers throughout every Detroit neighborhood so that no student, no matter their circumstances, goes without hope. In addition to hope, we will give children the assurance of resources, commitment, and opportunities that link their passions with their talents so that they may grow into successful individuals within their community, returning that same commitment back to Detroit. The summer of 2016 will be our first year hosting the Linking Learning Interactive Experience. During our first year as an organization, we hosted the Linking Literature Youth Literature Collection in which active members of the community collected and donated books for children throughout the city of Detroit. We were able to go into Detroit communities, door-to-door and person-to-person, donating books directly to the children that need them. In addition, we were able to interact with Detroit youth about the importance of literacy, not just in academics, but throughout every experience as they mature into adulthood. Through media channels (social media, radio, press, etc.), and networking, we are continuing to engage the Detroit community in involvement with our plans for this summer. The brilliance of the Linking Learning Interactive Experience is that it will bridge the gap between fun and education, through interactive learning. This initiative tackles two definite necessities and voids within our city: educational pride and identity within our community as a whole. Our project is innovative and unrestricted. We are covering all areas of need within our community, with no limits on how far we can progress. All effort serves a purpose, and will directly benefit those who serve. Implementing a realistic plan that improves on learning, health, accountability, comfort, and empowerment within the city has never been done before. Our initiative is unprecedented; embodying the imagination of the youth, and the power of the adults. We look to create character within Detroit communities and its citizens, utilizing their strengths to restore the city. By teaching communities to realize all of the positives of Detroit, we will utilize everything the city has, to build everything the city needs. This is the future of Detroit.
