Hello, my name is Alex. I’m originally from Burundi and I’m the coach of the Lions Athletic Club.
My team trains and works hard in all of our practices. But, as refugees, training can be difficult. Some athletes don’t have proper shoes and many of our runners don’t get enough nutritious food to eat to provide the energy they need to train.
So, my idea is to create a garden plot where our team can grow vegetables and fruits that will be available to all of our members and help us achieve even better results.
Our team focuses on the Olympic principles: Friendship, Respect and Excellence. But we feel we can’t be excellent with a limitation of not enough food.
On June 20, my team and I are excited to be running and participating in the World Refugee Day 5k. We’re training to run our best and hoping someone will support our effort to create a team garden.
