Lisa Iorillo and Jim Sellar
Lisa Iorillo and Jim Sellar will run the 2017 Philadelphia Marathon to help support the fight against Leukodystrophy. Jim and I have run many marathons together from Boston to New York and now we're headed to Philadelphia. Our goal for this marathon isn't setting any personal records but is focused more on increasing awareness about Leukodystrophy while raising funds to help Lisa's good friend and colleague, Patrick Carr’s daughter Calliope.
Lisa has run seven marathons to date, including the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC twice, the Boston Marathon four times and the famed NYC Marathon. Her most memorable marathon being her first go at Boston. She set her personal record in Boston in 2013, the year of the bombing. Lisa joined RVRR to train for her first Boston Marathon and throughout the training made lifelong friendships. Who else would meet you at 5:30 AM in 15 degrees weather to run 22 miles? Her RVRR friends have supported her every step of the way and these friendships have made her a better runner and a better person. Running is a sport of endurance and strength. There are many families and people that fight and endure hardships every day that we never know about. This is why I am running the Philadelphia Marathon and raising money for the The Calliope Joy Foundation as a small token of what I can do to help support them in their fight.
Jim had not run competitively since High School Track and Cross Country, only periodically jogging around the Cook Campus while attending Rutgers back in the ’80’s. He picked up the sport again about 9 years ago and since then he’s steadily ramped up his training to where he’s now completed over a dozen marathons across the country, numerous half marathons and also competes nearly every other week throughout NJ as part of a USA Masters Track team. This fall he will team up with Lisa Iorillo to run the Philadelphia Marathon again, this time supporting the Calliope Joy Foundation. Philly will be his 15th marathon.
Let's cross this finish line together!
and Jim Sellar
