BENEFITING: National Fragile X Foundation
EVENT DATE: Oct 17, 2015
This is Adam. He is a six-year old with places to go, people to see. All you have to do is tell him "let's go", and he's off to find his shoes. He may not talk much, but he definitely knows how to tell you what he wants. He was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome when he was only fourteen months old. Fragile X is an inherited genetic syndrome that affects a person's intelligence, behavior, and can cause delays in speech and language development. It is also the most common known cause of autism. So far, there is no cure.
Once we were over the inital shock and grief, we went straight to the internet to find local support groups. The Kansas Fragile X Group was right there when we needed them. They have given us so much support, encouragement, and education; our family is at a better place than we ever could have been without them.
The Kansas Fragile X Group has a mission to enrich lives through emotional and educational support, promote public and professional awareness, and to advance research towards improved treatments and a cure for Fragile X. Together with the National Fragile X Foundation, they work to support families like ours who are touched by the many different facets of Fragile X.
