There are approximately 92,000 functionally illiterate adults living in Central Alabama. That's 92,000 adults who cannot read well enough to fill out a job application or understand a prescription label or read to their children. That's 92,000 adults who need our help.

Our vision is one of a community in which each person achieves his or her maximum literacy potential. We work to achieve  this vision by developing, strengthening and supporting Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages services in Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby, and Walker Counties.
